Why would we distribute from Winnipeg rather than Toronto?
Because if your customers are spread nationally, Winnipeg is closer to the middle of them and the warehousing costs less. If your customers are concentrated in the Golden Horseshoe, Toronto wins. It depends entirely on where your orders actually go, and that is a calculation worth doing before you sign a lease.
What is a foreign trade zone worth to an importer?
Duty deferral and, for goods you re-export, duty relief. On thin-margin imported goods it can be the difference between a viable landed cost and an unviable one.
